Young Hearts Project

We donate $5 from every pair of full price Deuce sneakers sold to our charity initiative the Young Hearts Project and our giving partners Great Potentials and Youthline; to date we’ve raised almost $900K and we’re incredibly proud.

Giving back has always been at the centre of our business, and it’s a value driven by our Managing Director Shane Anselmi; moved by the issues facing young Kiwis, he launched the Young Hearts Project in 2013 as a way for Deuce and the Overland Footwear Group to give back directly to the community, providing empowerment, support and inspiration.

“It’s an initiative we created with the aim of helping to build resilience in young New Zealanders so that they can better take on the challenges of life. Inspiring young people is at the heart of the Deuce brand.” – Shane Anselmi

More than just donations, the Young Hearts Project also engages with the community, visiting schools, donating sneakers and reaching out to the next generation; we think small steps can have a big impact.

Great Potentials is one of our giving partners, with the philosophy of “Helping children, young people & families towards brighter futures”. Their MATES mentoring programme is highly active in schools and communities across New Zealand, providing vital academic support, life skills, building meaningful relationships and embracing the joy of learning to enable fundamental change.

The Deuce team have visited kids in Great Potentials’ MATES mentoring programme at schools in Manurewa and Avondale, where they presented the students with brand new sneakers to celebrate their achievements. We’re proud to see Young Hearts Project in action, and the smiles from receiving a brand new pair of kicks.

Choosing Youthline as one of our giving partners was a no brainer, as they have been doing an amazing job for many years and are a vital part of our communities.

Each month their trained volunteers answer thousands of texts, emails and calls from young people who need someone talk to. Funding is vital, as young people are reaching out to them more then ever - in the three weeks over Christmas and New Years 2015, they responded to over 700 calls and 5000 text messages.

Reflecting their tagline of “Changing Lives” Youthline has a strong legacy of support and engagement; their vision is “to create communities where young people thrive and can get help if they need it”.
